The popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) is on the rise, with auto manufacturers such as Chevrolet updating their vehicle lineups to offer multiple EV options. Years ago, small cars were the norm for EVs, but their design has evolved into larger vehicle types, including trucks and SUVs. But is the quality of efficiency and mileage range just as good in an all-electric truck compared to a hatchback EV? Absolutely. Discover the perks of owning an EV, Chevrolet's EV history, and more with our overview of Chevrolet's EV cars.

The Benefits of Driving an EV

The advanced technology required to make a fully electric vehicle has created a new quality standard for all EVs. Their awe-inspiring interiors make you feel like you're in the future and offer the best connectivity and convenience for long drives on the California freeways. With impressive driving ranges of up to 400 miles on a full charge, a Chevrolet EV is a better auto option than regular gas-powered cars, especially with rising gas prices. Besides helping you save money on expensive fuel costs, additional benefits of owning an EV include:

  • Federal tax credits and state incentives between $2,500 and $7,500 for new EV purchases.
  • Growing charging availability at home, work, or one of thousands of public charging stations.
  • Improved battery life, with many manufacturers offering eight-year battery warranties.
  • Reduced environmental impact, as EVs are low-emission vehicles that are better for the environment.

Chevrolet's EV History and Lineup

Chevrolet's EV history began over 25 years ago with the introduction of the EV1 in 1996 and the world's first electric pickup truck, the Chevrolet S-10, in 1997. A decade later, Chevrolet debuted the Volt, a concept car with advanced hybrid technology.

Unfortunately, Chevy discontinued all three of these vehicles to make room for vehicles that would better meet consumer demands. The auto manufacturer redirected their focus to developing EVs. In doing so, Chevrolet made major breakthroughs in design, battery charging, and engineering to offer the following affordable and accessible EVs:

Chevrolet Bolt EV

The Chevrolet Bolt EV is a subcompact hatchback that comfortably seats five people and provides 36 inches of rear-seat legroom. This car may be small but offers a maximum cargo volume of 57 cubic feet, perfect for hauling groceries, luggage, and sporting equipment. If you want a Chevrolet EV car that whips around corners, you'll love the Sport driving mode featuring rapid acceleration.

The Bolt EV's dynamic engine delivers 200 horsepower and can go from zero to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds. Drive up to an EPA-estimated 259 miles on a full battery and generate and restore energy with a pull of a steering wheel paddle. When it's time to recharge, you can charge at home or take your Bolt EV to one of 40,000 compatible public charging stations across the U.S. The Chevrolet Bolt EV is the most affordable option at $26,500 MSRP.

Chevrolet Bolt Electric Utility Vehicle (EUV)

Choose the Chevrolet Bolt EUV for a vehicle that's a step up from a hatchback but still small enough to maneuver in and out of parking spots easily. The Bolt EUV still carries the underpinnings of the Bolt EV but elevates the look to that of an SUV. Seat five passengers, enjoy more rear-seat legroom at 39.1 inches, and conveniently store or hide your cargo in the Chevrolet Bolt EUV's optimized interior.

This electric SUV offers an excellent EPA-estimated 247-mile driving range on a full charge. Don't sweat if your battery is running low while you're on the go. There are over 134,000 public charging stations compatible with the Bolt EUV, making it easy to take your electric Chevy wherever you want. With an affordable price tag of $27,800 MSRP, this Chevrolet EV car is worth the price.

Chevrolet Equinox EV

The Equinox EV is part of Chevrolet's upcoming EVs, with an anticipated debut in fall 2023 and spring 2024, depending on the trim. This compact crossover SUV will present an estimated 300-mile electric range with fast public charging. The auto manufacturer expects the Equinox EV to offer an approximate 70-mile range for a 10-minute charge. With a driver-centric interior and up to 1,500 pounds of towing capacity, this upgraded SUV will surely blow the competition away. Starting prices for the 1LT trim are $30,000 MSRP, which is a great deal for an all-electric SUV.

Chevrolet Blazer EV

Another upcoming vehicle in Chevy's all-electric lineup is the Blazer EV, a reimagined version of a Chevrolet classic. Moving at a snail's pace is a thing of the past with the Chevrolet Blazer EV's powerful engine and Wide Open Watts (WOW) system that delivers 557 horsepower on the SS trim. If you love to go fast, you'll appreciate this midsize SUV's ability to go from zero to 60 mph in under 4 seconds.

The Blazer EV is compatible with over 134,000 public charging stations, just like the Bolt EUV, but it offers an even more impressive driving range of an estimated 320 miles. Convenient interior features include wireless charging, a hands-free start system, and a large 17.7-inch diagonal display screen. The Chevrolet Blazer EV might be the most expensive vehicle option at $56,725 MSRP for the 2LT trim. However, the higher price may be worth it if you want a family vehicle with a powerful engine and a good mileage range.

Chevrolet Silverado EV

Despite losing the electric Chevrolet S-10, Chevy promises to offer the beloved Silverado in an all-electric format. Depending on the trim, the Silverado EV is expected to reach 450 miles on a full charge. With WOW, this heavy-duty pickup truck will deliver up to 754 horsepower.

Although you must wait until summer 2024 to purchase the brand-new Chevrolet Silverado EV, you can start planning your next family road trip. With an outstanding towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, you could tow a camping trailer, boat and trailer, or off-roading vehicles for an adventure-packed trip in Victorville, California. Expected prices for the Chevrolet Silverado EV are still unconfirmed.
